Entertaiment and Remix

Article

Entertaiment, derived from the Medieval Latin intertenere (from the prefix “inter” and the suffix tenere), originally meant to hold inside. The Indo-European root ten has also been translated as “stretch.” Indeed, in this time of economic crisis, entertainment industry companies have found ways to stretch their resources. Record and movie studios have refocused their marketing efforts on consumer discounts, while independent recording artists, producers and filmmakers are utilizing technology to share their work with consumers through websites such as eBay, Craigslist and file sharing networks.

What is entertainment for one person may be work or cruelty to another. But the familiar forms of entertainment have shown a remarkable capacity for cross-over and remix.
