Entertaiment is any kind of activity that keeps an audience’s attention and interest. This includes movies, television shows and music. It also includes activities that are meant to be amusing or make people laugh.

Generally, entertainment is meant to entertain by stimulating the brain to realease seratonin, dopamine and other chemicals. This can be done by focusing on themes that the brain was evolved to react to deeply. This can be by addressing social backstabbing and murders for example.

The word entertaiment is derived from the Medieval Latin word intertenere, meaning “to hold inside.” Its Indo-European root is ten, which means to stretch. This is ironic since a lot of the entertainment in our culture has been about sexual stretching and other forms of erotic activity.
